Premier League Faces Up to 38% Loss in Betting Sponsorship Revenue

U.K. – June 10, 2025 (www.zonadeazar.com) — The Premier League is bracing for a significant drop in sponsorship revenue from betting companies. Starting in the 2026/2027 season, gambling brands will no longer be allowed to appear on the front of club jerseys.
This measure could lead to losses of up to 38% in revenue from such partnerships. Last season, 11 Premier League clubs had main sponsorship deals with betting companies such as Betano, Stake, Betway, SBOTOP, and others.
These sponsorships are especially crucial for mid- and lower-tier clubs, which lack the global reach of the Big Six: Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool. The new code of conduct, approved by the league and aligned with the UK government and anti-gambling addiction groups, aims to reduce public exposure—particularly for younger fans—to betting brands.
With this new rule, each club could lose between £5 million and £10 million per season, equivalent to approximately R$30 million to R$63 million. Overall, the league could see annual losses of around £40 million. However, this decision aligns with similar restrictions already implemented by other European leagues such as La Liga (Spain) and Serie A (Italy).
It’s worth noting that although front-of-shirt sponsorships are banned, clubs can still display betting brands on sleeves and other placements like LED stadium panels. Despite the new rules, clubs continue to sign agreements with betting companies through the end of the 2025/2026 season, the last season front-of-shirt ads will be permitted.
