Brasil: LOTERJ Celebrates 50 Years as the Official Lottery of the State of Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro – June 24, 2025  www.zonadeazar.com This Sunday, the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery – LOTERJ celebrates 50 years since its official establishment, reaffirming its status as one of Brazil’s most traditional and socially responsible lottery institutions.

Originally founded in August 1940 as the State Lottery of Guanabara – LOTEG, the entity was restructured and renamed LOTERJ through Decree-Law No. 138 on June 23, 1975, following the merger of the states of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro.

📜 As stated in its founding regulation:

“The lottery services of the State of Rio de Janeiro shall be operated by LOTERJ, as the successor to the autonomous departments and the former LOTEG, in accordance with Supplementary Law No. 20, July 1, 1974.”

The updated mission, as established by Law No. 9490/2021, mandates that 70% of LOTERJ’s net profits, after setting aside a 30% reserve, are to be allocated to hospital, educational, social, sports, and cultural initiatives, including sponsorship for the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and the state’s social security fund, RIOPREVIDÊNCIA.

🎯 Over the past 50 years, LOTERJ has consistently contributed to the social development of Rio de Janeiro, supporting numerous charitable organizations and community projects throughout the state.
