Brazil: Senate Receives 17 Bills to Tighten Sports Betting Regulations

Brazil – June 17, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com On Monday, June 16, a package of 17 legislative proposals was submitted to Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco. The goal of these proposals is to strengthen the regulation of sports betting in Brazil.
The initiative seeks to make sports betting regulations more stringent, particularly in light of the sector’s growth and recent allegations of match-fixing. The proposals were developed by a working group from the Institutional Relations Secretariat of the Presidency, with support from the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).
The proposals prioritize consumer protection, anti-money laundering measures, and increased oversight of betting platforms. Additionally, they include harsher penalties for crimes related to gambling.
One of the most notable measures is the proposal to ban the use of credit cards for gambling and to limit advertising by betting companies. The proposal also calls for greater transparency from companies in the sector and expanded oversight of the actions of digital influencers and sports clubs.
There is also a proposal aimed at strengthening regulatory bodies to ensure the effective implementation of the new legislation. Senator Rodrigo Pacheco stated that the package will be reviewed as a priority in the Senate.
He also emphasized the need to balance the freedom of operation in the sector with control mechanisms that prevent abuse and irregularities.
