Brazil Strengthens Fight Against Match-Fixing with Sportradar Training

Brasília – May 20, 2025 | www.zonadeazar.com – In a decisive new step in the fight against sports fraud, the Brazilian Federal Government this week hosted a technical training session led by Sportradar, a global leader in sports integrity monitoring. The event brought together teams from the Ministry of Sports and the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance in the federal capital.
The training is part of a Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the Ministry of Sports and the Swiss-based company, focused on detecting and preventing match-fixing in sports events across Brazil.
“Continuous training of public servants is essential. This is just one of the actions planned in that direction. Sportradar is one of five entities with which we have signed agreements — all of them with significant presence both in Brazil and internationally,” said Giovanni Rocco Neto, National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development in Sports.
According to Rocco Neto, while football is the main focus, the government is committed to preserving the integrity of all sports disciplines:
“Today we addressed match-fixing in football, which is Brazil’s greatest passion, but the training will be ongoing and soon extended to athletes as well.”
During the session, Felippe Marchetti, Sportradar’s Director of Integrity for Latin America, provided a comprehensive overview of both the Brazilian and global markets, explaining the technical aspects of the monitoring system:
“We are jointly developing policies to tackle this complex phenomenon, which affects not only Brazil but all of Latin America and the world. We covered key concepts, market trends, and technical insights into how we monitor matches and betting activity to detect suspicious patterns.”
Sportradar employs cutting-edge technology to monitor thousands of sports events each year, identifying anomalies that may indicate potential match-fixing.
In addition to Sportradar, the Ministry of Sports has signed cooperation agreements with four other organizations specialized in sports integrity: SIGA, IBIA, ABFS, and Genius Sports. The joint goal is clear: to prevent fraud, safeguard the integrity of competitions, and ensure a secure environment for both sports and the country’s regulated betting market.
