Buenos Aires Lawmakers Move to Block Gambling Sites in Schools

Argentina.– 11 November 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com The Buenos Aires Provincial Chamber of Deputies is advancing a bill to block online gambling and adult-content websites within both public and private schools.

Overview
The Education Committee of the Buenos Aires Provincial Chamber of Deputies approved the merger of two bills aiming to restrict access to online gambling platforms in educational institutions. The proposal seeks to create a legal framework that ensures a safer digital environment for students.

The initiative follows growing concern over gambling addiction among young people and the normalization of online betting in school settings.

Details / Context
The committee, chaired by Fernanda Díaz (Unión por la Patria), consolidated two initiatives introduced by Belén Malaisi (UCR + Cambio Federal) and Martín Rozas (Unión y Libertad).

Malaisi’s bill proposes amending Article 55 of the Provincial Education Law to require the Ministry of Education to permanently block gambling websites within school networks.

Malaisi stated:

“Gambling addiction among students is on the rise. It’s time to take concrete action to protect our youth from harmful practices.”

Rozas’s proposal, meanwhile, mandates internet providers to install filtering systems that restrict access to betting and adult-content sites.

He added:

“Our goal is to promote responsible and secure internet use within schools, involving teachers, students and service providers.”

Future outlook
If approved, the measure will become a landmark in Argentina’s efforts to prevent gambling disorders and promote digital safety among minors. Educational associations such as AIEPA have already warned about the growing presence of gambling behaviors in schools and welcomed legislative action.

This initiative aligns with a broader national agenda focused on responsible gaming, digital literacy and youth protection.
