Curaçao Extends Temporary Online Gaming Licenses Through December 2025

Willemstad, Curaçao – June 27, 2025 | 🌐 www.zonadeazar.com The Government of Curaçao has officially announced the extension of temporary online gaming licenses until December 31, 2025, as the island continues its transition toward a new regulatory framework under the National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK).
The extension aims to ensure operational continuity for existing operators while the LOK legislation remains under parliamentary discussion. The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) clarified that operators who submitted their license applications before March 31, 2024, under the transitional regime, can continue operating legally under temporary licenses.
Additionally, the CGA set September 30, 2025, as the final deadline to submit new applications under the current system—marking one of the last opportunities before the new law takes effect.
Curaçao advances gaming reform
The regulatory overhaul is designed to replace the old sublicense model previously managed by private entities. It aligns with Dutch government recommendations made since 2020, advocating for stronger compliance with international standards on anti-money laundering, data protection, and responsible gaming.
During the transitional phase, the CGA serves as both licensing body and supervisory authority, assuming a more centralized and proactive role than previously held by the Ministry of Finance.
The reform also seeks to improve the global reputation of Curaçao’s gaming sector by enforcing higher levels of transparency, fiscal compliance, and risk control mechanisms.
The CGA emphasized that the LOK will not apply retroactively, meaning operators licensed under the transitional framework will retain their legal status under the terms originally granted.
