Mexico: Mazatlán FC Player Suspended for Match-Fixing

Mexico, May 6, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com – The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has imposed a six-year suspension on a Mazatlán FC player for her involvement in match-fixing activities.

During the opening phase of the Women’s Clausura Tournament, Mazatlán finished 16th in the standings, just two spots above last place. Although the offense is serious, the FMF has chosen not to reveal the identity of the player.

According to the FMF’s official statement, the investigation was conducted under the Federation’s Code of Ethics and revealed the potential involvement of a group of players in match manipulation. The final decision was made after reviewing evidence and holding hearings with the individuals involved.

The FMF’s Disciplinary Committee based the ruling on its Sanctions Regulation, as well as the FIFA and FMF Codes of Ethics. The player is banned from participating in any professional football-related activities—whether sporting, administrative, or representative—for six years.

Additionally, the FMF confirmed it will forward the case to FIFA and continue investigating similar violations that jeopardize the integrity of competitions.
