AI tools and deepfakes driving fraud
- 78% of cases used artificial intelligence
- Deepfake fraud in Brazil rose 822%
- Brazilian rate is 5x higher than the U.S., 10x Germany
Top threats to operators
- Identity fraud: 64.8%
- Money laundering: 64.8%
- Bonus abuse: 63.8%
- Payment fraud: 31.4%
- Account theft: 23.8%
Most vulnerable stages: deposits and onboarding
- Fraud in deposits: 41.9%
- Onboarding fraud: 23.8%
- Withdrawals: 22.9%
- In-game fraud: 11.4%
Most attacks occur between 4–8 a.m., exploiting low compliance monitoring.
Brazil enforces regulation in 2025
Though legalized in 2018, strict regulations came into force in January 2025, demanding:
- Biometric verification
- ISO 27001 certification for providers
- Fines up to R$2 billion for non-compliance
Tech improving verification speed
Average verification times dropped from 32 to 25 seconds. According to Kris Galloway, iGaming Product Director at Sumsub:
