This decision, which comes into force as per the decree signed by the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa dos Santos, reflects the relevance and growing attention of the Brazilian government to the sports betting sector.

Career
The new secretary assumes this strategic position with an extensive background in the public and private sector, notable for his work in legislation related to sports betting and the economic development of sport in Brazil.

He played a crucial role in the approval of important legislation in the National Congress, such as PL 3626/23, which established rules and taxes for the betting market, contributing to the regulation and control of this segment in the country.

Giovanni Rocco, graduated in Law and postgraduate in Political Science, brings comprehensive experience in different spheres of government and in important institutions such as the Chamber of Deputies, where he served for three years.

Ordinance and appointment

In the executive sector, he had significant stints in different bodies. For example, he served in São Bernardo do Campo City Hall. In addition, he worked at the Greater ABC Economic Development Agency, where he held the position of Executive Secretary.

Their expertise, on the other hand, will be vital to face regulatory and inspection challenges. Furthermore, it will be essential in combating illegality in the sports betting sector. Thus, it will contribute to ensuring the integrity and transparency of operations.

Function of the National Sports Betting Secretariat

Giovanni Rocco Neto’s responsibility at the head of the National Sports Betting Secretariat will be extensive. The new secretariat has the role of coordinating and supervising actions aimed at developing the sports market in Brazil, promoting access to equipment and structures that improve sport in all its dimensions.

In the specific area of ​​sports betting, the Secretariat will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of sporting events and ensuring the unpredictability of results.

Among its functions is the preparation of studies, planning and implementation of partnerships with various entities, both public and private, nationally and internationally.

These initiatives aim to prevent and combat manipulations and fraud that could compromise the legitimacy of betting. Furthermore, the Secretariat will be responsible for communicating any indication of irregularity to the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Treasury.

Another important task will be maintaining a public and updated list. This list will include the sports and entities that may be the subject of bets on real events.
