Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Sports Stars Use Poker for Entertainment and Help Popularize the Game
Brazil – March 11, 2025 | www.zonadeazar.com One of the key factors contributing to poker’s popularity is its ease of play. Because of this, the game has become an entertainment alternative for millions of players around the world.
It’s no surprise that poker has become one of the fastest-growing games globally in recent years. In Brazil, the game already boasts a significant fan base and continues to expand rapidly.
According to data from the Brazilian Confederation of Texas Hold’em (CBTH), there are already around 7 million poker players in Brazil, highlighting the growing appeal of the game among the public.
Poker Among Sports Stars
However, this rise in popularity didn’t happen overnight. Poker is widely embraced by professional athletes, especially in the soccer world, and has been heavily promoted by some of the most influential figures in Brazil.
Returning to Santos Futebol Clube after 12 years, Neymar Jr. is one of the biggest poker enthusiasts in the country.
But the Brazilian superstar is not alone in this passion—he frequently invites his friends and teammates to join him at poker events.
The new No. 10 for Corinthians, Dutch player Memphis Depay, was recently spotted playing poker alongside Neymar at an event attended by the legendary forward.
Poker’s appeal is also spreading across generations, attracting an impressive audience. Five-time World Cup champion Ronaldo Nazário (“Fenômeno”) and legendary coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo also have a strong history in the game.
These historical figures of Brazilian football continue to help promote and popularize poker both inside and outside Brazil.
New Players in the Poker Scene
It’s important to note that support for poker doesn’t come only from athletes. Betting companies are also playing a key role in promoting the game.
One of the leading investors in the poker industry, CoinPoker, has gained great recognition with MMA fighter Borrachinha as its ambassador.
“It’s an incredible honor to represent CoinPoker. Poker is growing significantly both nationally and internationally, gaining fans everywhere. Being part of this movement is something I’m truly proud of,” said Borrachinha, CoinPoker’s ambassador.
Poker professionals also appreciate the company’s involvement.
“Even though many athletes love poker, there’s always a need for more visibility and investment in the game,” said Brazilian poker pro Olivio Gontijo, also known as Bigfat.
“Having influential figures supporting poker’s growth and development shows we are on the right track and have committed partners like CoinPoker,” he added.
