Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Voting on the Project that Frees Casinos in Brazil is Postponed

Brasília.- May 16, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  The analysis of the bill that allows the operation of casinos and bingos, legalizes gambling and betting on horse races in Brazil has been postponed once again in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Senate. Scheduled to be voted on this Wednesday (15), the proposal was removed from the agenda by the president of the CCJ, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).

As a strategy, the vice-president of the CCJ, Marcos Rogério (PL-RO), stated that it would not be appropriate to vote on the project in the absence of the rapporteur, Irajá (PSD-TO). Thus, it was decided that the proposal will return to the collegiate’s agenda next Wednesday (22) . If there is a request for review, the project will be discussed at the next meeting, on May 29th. Due to the Corpus Christi holiday and the remote session, it was agreed that PL 2234/22 will be voted on on June 5th.

The project was on the agenda in November last year and last week, but was not analyzed. If approved by the Committee, the proposal will go to the Senate plenary for a vote. It is worth remembering that Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), rapporteur of the PL, has already issued a favorable opinion for the approval of the text that has been pending in the committee for over a year.
