Brazil.- June 27, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com This Wednesday, the 26th, the Federal Police carried out 11 search and seizure warrants in an operation investigating result manipulation in a Brasileirão Series D match. Police did not release the names of the targets of the investigation, nor details about the teams and date of the match under investigation.

TV Globo found that the match in question is the game between Inter de Limeira and Patrocinense, which took place on June 1st, where Inter de Limeira won the match 3×0 and according to the PF, there are indications that bettors have “prior knowledge that a certain team would lose the first half of the match by at least two goals.”

CBF was alerted by a report from Sportradar

According to the PF, the investigation began due to a letter from Sportradar sent to the CBF, in which it identified a suspect. According to Sportradar, “the movement in the betting shops suggested that bettors had prior knowledge of details of the match”. Still in the letter, the company highlighted that, “during the match, it was found that the visiting team conceded three goals in the first half, one of which was an own goal.”

Company would be involved in the scheme

Preliminary information indicates that a player agency company is also among those investigated. The investigation indicates that this company had entered into a partnership with Patrocinense, so that its agency athletes could be hired by the team.

The PF stated that it is acting on the case with “express authorization from the Minister of Justice and Public Security, in view of the national repercussion of the case, which requires uniform repression”. Now it is investigating whether there really was the alleged manipulation of results and whether it was negotiated in the context of the partnership between the company and the club. If the scheme is confirmed, those involved may be held liable for “crimes against the uncertainty of the sporting result”, provided for in the General Sports Law, where the penalty varies from two to six years in prison.

Team is at the top of its group in Serie D

With 10 matches played in Series D, Patrocinense is in last place in its group, with seven defeats, two draws and just one victory. Furthermore, the team has scored just 6 goals in the competition and conceded an incredible 24 goals so far.

The mandates were updated by the São Paulo court and cover the following cities: Patrocínio (MG), São José do Rio Preto (SP), São Paulo (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Tanguá (RJ) and Nova Friburgo ( RJ).

The investigation includes targets ranging from players, the coach who led the team in the match and also a businessman. In addition, there are also searches at the team’s headquarters, which is in the city of Patrocínio, in Minas Gerais.
