Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Minister of Sports Discusses Integrity and Betting with SIGA CEO
Brazil.- November 1, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com In Brasília, the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, met with Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, co-founder and Global CEO of SIGA (Sport Integrity Global Alliance). The meeting focused on sports integrity, discussing information sharing and betting monitoring.
Previously, Giovanni Rocco Neto, National Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports, participated in the signing of a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the entity.
This agreement, signed with companies specializing in betting monitoring and integrity, including SIGA, reinforces the government’s commitment to combat irregularities in the sector.
Minister of Sports Suggests Betting Surveillance
Fufuca emphasized the need for surveillance in sports betting. “We must ensure transparency. If there is one thing that cannot exist, it is any form of illegality in sports betting. On this matter, we will be fully vigilant to prevent it. And if it happens, those responsible will be punished,” stated the minister.
Emanuel Medeiros highlighted the importance of betting integrity for sports and economic development. “We are 100% committed to collaborating with the Brazilian government on this common goal.”
“Our extensive knowledge and expertise, along with our universal standards and rating system, are available to sports organizations, betting operators, regulators, the government, and other economic agents, like sponsors, so that sports in Brazil are governed, operated, and practiced according to the highest standards of integrity,” he declared.
Betting Regulation
Betting regulation has become urgent following the 2018 law, which was not implemented on time. Rocco Neto explained, “the chaotic scenario, exacerbated by the pandemic and changes in population habits, requires firm State action to ensure a safe environment for bettors.”
Finally, the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports plans to sign a technical cooperation agreement similar to that of the Ministry of Finance.
The initiative seeks to strengthen monitoring in the sports betting sector and promote integrity in this field. Consequently, the goal is to create a safer and more transparent environment for everyone involved in the betting market.
