Zona de Azar Brazil – Evangelos Marinakis: the Tycoon who Could Become a Partner of São Paulo

Brazil.- March 19, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The soap opera involving the possible participation of Evangelos Marinakis in São Paulo continues to gain new chapters.
The president of the Tricolour Paulista, Julio Casares, confirmed that the club and the Greek tycoon are close.
‘The contract with Marinakis is getting closer and closer. He came to Brazil, and I went to London twice,’ said the manager.
The partnership with Marinakis aims to negotiate the club’s debts, estimated at around R$1 billion, and strengthen the Tricolour’s youth teams.
The Greek, who owns clubs such as Rio Ave, Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos, has already shown an interest in Vasco’s SAF, but in the case of São Paulo, the focus would be on the Cotia Athlete Training Centre (CFA).
Evangelos Marinakis is a 57-year-old billionaire who owns the Capital Maritime Group, with assets estimated at US$ 3.7 billion (R$ 22 billion at the current price). He also runs Alter Ego Media, a group that owns one of Greece’s two largest newspapers and the country’s second largest TV channel.
The agreement between the Greek and São Paulo is aimed at financial contributions that would give the investor a stake in the club’s base and a percentage on the sale of youngsters trained at the club.
Recently, the Tricolour Paulista managers and the businessman aligned new points of the possible deal. However, to be made official, the project needs to be approved by the Board of Directors, chaired by Casares, and then by the Board of Directors.
Despite the deal generating financial benefits for the club, the issue has been generating disagreements between councillors and fans, especially over the inclusion of Cotia in the deal.
