Zona de Azar Brazil – Lucas Paquetá Goes on Trial in England for Alleged Involvement in Betting

Brazil.- 19th March 2025 www.zonadeazar.com West Ham player Lucas Paquetá had his trial started by the English Football Association (FA) on Monday (17). The FA reported the player in May 2024 for misconduct in relation to betting.
According to reports in the British press, the trial will last approximately three weeks and the FA is calling for the player to be banned from football.
The accusation is that the former Flamengo player violated the FA’s rules of conduct relating to sports betting, through an official statement released by the FA in May 2024. According to the FA, the Brazilian broke the rules in the following matches:
- Against Leicester City, on 12 November 2022
- Aston Villa, on 12 March 2023
- Leeds United, on 21 May 2023
- Bournemouth on 12 August 2023
In all these games, the player was penalised with yellow cards. However, soon after the accusation was made, Paquetá commented on the case on his social networks:
‘I am extremely surprised and upset that the FA has decided to charge me. I have co-operated with all stages of the investigation and provided all the information I could during these nine months. I deny the charges in full and will fight with all my might to clear my name. Due to the ongoing process, I will not provide any further comments,’ said Paquetá.
