Sweden.- September 26, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has announced a new initiative to intensify its fight against illegal gambling outside the regulated licensing system.

This initiative aligns with the Authority’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers, safeguard public health and ensure the proper collection of tax revenues.

Central to this initiative is the development of a comprehensive situational analysis of illegal online gambling in Sweden.

The analysis, set to be completed by January 2025, aims to provide a detailed overview of the current landscape, including the identification of key actors and methods used to circumvent existing gambling and related legislation.

The findings are expected to be a valuable resource not only for the SGA but also for other regulatory bodies and stakeholders in the gaming market.

Camilla Rosenberg, Director General of the Swedish Gambling Authority, emphasised the importance of this initiative, noting that the report will be instrumental in countering illegal gambling online going forward.

She referenced that the overview will examine international comparisons as well as proposing strategies to enhance future efforts in combating unauthorised gaming.

The report will also provide recommendations for any necessary legislative changes to further strengthen the country’s regulatory framework.

In related news, it was announced earlier this year that the Swedish Gambling Authority has joined United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS) as an associate member – a move that marks a shared commitment to protecting sports from competition manipulation.
