UK.- May 13, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com British gambling company William Hill is close to signing a record-breaking deal to become the title sponsor of the Scottish Professional Football League.

The SPFL, formed in June 2013 through a merger between the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League, consists of 42 teams, all of which are shareholders.

In 2021, online car retailer Cinch exercised its right to terminate its five-year contract with the SPFL after three years. William Hill is close to agreeing on a five-year deal to take over, worth $2.5 million (£2 million) per year, up from the $2 million deal with Cinch. The $12.5 million (£10 million) deal would be a record-breaker for the SPFL.

“It’s a challenging sponsorship environment. Any of our 42 member clubs would tell you the same,” SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said last week. “Cinch is coming out of the contract this summer and I am optimistic that we will have a replacement sponsor for the start of the new season.”

William Hill has previously held deals in Scottish football, including sponsoring the SPFL-operated Scottish Cup between 2011 and 2020.

This week, William Hill owner 888 Holdings revealed its plans to refinance $499 million as part of a value creation plan.
