These are five key numbers from the research that shed light on the prevailing trends and sentiments in the gaming sector:
- 85 percent of American adults support the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). This decision has opened the doors for legalized sports betting in numerous states across the country, giving rise to a thriving industry that has been eagerly embraced by the majority of Americans.
- A 88 percent of gaming equipment manufacturer CEOs anticipate an increase in sales of gaming units for replacement use over the next three to six months. This indicates a strong demand for gaming equipment and signifies a positive outlook for the gaming industry in the near future.
- In 2022, commercial gaming activities contributed a significant amount of revenue to state and local governments. Direct gaming tax revenue amounted to an impressive $13.49 billion, excluding additional billions paid in income, sales, and other taxes. This revenue stream highlights the substantial economic impact of the gaming industry on local communities and public coffers.
- The commercial gaming sector experienced a remarkable growth streak, with April 2023 marking the 26th consecutive month of year-over-year revenue growth. During this period, commercial gaming revenue reached $22.06 billion, reflecting a substantial increase of 13.8 percent compared to the previous year. This consistent growth demonstrates the industry’s resilience and sustained popularity among consumers.
- The gaming industry stands out as a leader in promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workforce. More than 60 percent (61%) of gaming industry employees are from minority backgrounds, surpassing the overall U.S. workforce representation of 42 percent. This statistic showcases the industry’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
