Zona de Azar USA – SBC Summit Latam Panel: Leaders Set Regional Agenda in Betting

USA.- December 6th 2023 www.zonadeazar.com Under the framework of the first day of conferences at the SBC Summit Latin America event, expert representatives from prominent global operators gathered in the panel “LatAm Leaders: A New Crucible for Innovation in Gaming and Sports Betting.”

Moderated by Maia Bubis Perera, Associate of Zona de Azar, the panel addressed the stance of leaders in the Latin American markets, examining legislative and financial changes in the region, as well as the limitations and potentials associated with connecting to the global market, along with projected trends for the year 2024.

The initial presentation was delivered by Andrea Rossi, Commercial Director for Latin America at Betsson Group, a highly sought-after figure during the meetings held between October 31 and November 2, 2023, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Miami.

Rossi highlighted Betsson’s leadership position, not only due to its significant sponsorships but also because of its strategic vision in the region since 2008, currently operating in seven markets through platforms developed after the acquisition of important local operators.

Meridianbet, a Latin American gaming platform, was another highlight, according to Juan José Mantese, Partner & VP of Latam at the company. Emphasis was placed on its popularity in five markets since 2009, underscoring the importance of anticipating market regulation and adapting to each specific jurisdiction.

JD Duarte, CEO of Betcris, emphasized the importance of localization strategies beyond language, involving customer education to broaden their entertainment preferences. Additionally, there was a focus on adapting to the online platform, a change driven by the pandemic.

Xabier Maribona, CEO of Grupo Retabet, addressed the need to work closely with regulators when expanding a successful business from Spain to Peru. He highlighted that expansion should go hand in hand with adapting to the constant variations in markets as dynamic as those in Latin America.

Andrea Rossi shared Betsson’s strategy centered on a detailed understanding of each Latin American market, contributing to the financial success of the company in 2023. The importance of considering differences in technological, financial, banking, and entertainment development in each country was emphasized.

Juan José Mantese reflected on the competition between European giants and smaller local brands, proposing strategies to strengthen the casino vertical and keep sports offerings updated.

JD Duarte emphasized the importance of regulation and collaboration with national bodies for joint growth. Gonzalo Pérez, CEO of Apuesta Total, shared the experience of adapting to the Peruvian market with new regulations, seeking efficiencies and technological ownership as differentiators.

Xabier Maribona highlighted Retabet’s efforts in combating sports manipulation and issues generated by bots in the online realm, emphasizing the need for constant technological innovation and database growth.
