Prime Video Releases Jogo do Bicho-Inspired “Corrida dos Bichos”
Brazil.- 11 August 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Prime Video has released “Corrida dos Bichos”, a Brazilian action thriller inspired by the traditional jogo do bicho and set in a dystopian version of Rio de Janeiro.
Produced by O2 Filmes as a Prime Original, the film arrives on the streaming platform after previously being screened at the international SXSW festival.

The story takes place in the near future following an environmental disaster that leaves Rio de Janeiro deeply divided by social inequality.
Against this backdrop, the Corrida dos Bichos emerges as one of the population’s principal forms of entertainment.
Within the competition, powerful magnates known as “Jogadores” control low-income participants referred to as “Bichos”, who compete in a race offering a million-dollar prize.
The protagonist Mano, played by Matheus Abreu, leads Perímetro da Morte, a resistance movement that fights the system by rescuing runners, destroying competition routes and helping participants escape.

The story changes when Mano discovers that his sister Dalva, played by Thainá Duarte, has been used by her boyfriend as collateral in a wager connected with the Corrida dos Bichos.
To rescue her, Mano is forced to enter the same system he has spent his life attempting to destroy.
The production uses Brazil’s jogo do bicho culture as the starting point for a fictional story exploring inequality, power, violence, betting and entertainment.
The cast also includes Rodrigo Santoro, Isis Valverde, Anitta, Bruno Gagliasso, Grazi Massafera, Seu Jorge, João Guilherme, Silvero Pereira, Leandro Firmino, Jade Sassará, Azzy and Jéssica Córes.

Its release through Prime Video gives international visibility to a Brazilian production that places gaming and betting culture at the centre of its fictional universe.
The screenplay was written by Ernesto Solis, Eva Klaver, Marco Abujamra and Rodrigo Lages.
