Club World Cup Meets its Goal and Engages Fans

The tournament debuts successfully in an expanding market
The US strengthens its position as a strategic football hub
USA.- July 24, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The FIFA Club World Cup had a successful debut in the United States, showing the North American market’s readiness for top-level football despite some criticism over “low” attendance in select matches.
According to Luiz Muzzi, advisor to the Wilf Group (owners of Orlando City and the Minnesota Vikings), “expecting sell-outs at every game of a new tournament is naive.” He noted that even in the 1930 World Cup, not every match was sold out, but football grew through patience, investment, and long-term vision.
The tournament leveraged promotions, local partnerships, and bundled ticket sales to drive attendance, aligning with FIFA’s goal to expand football into new markets beyond traditional centers. “Building identity takes time,” Muzzi emphasized, noting the US has shown growing enthusiasm for football with Messi’s arrival and high-profile European friendlies.
Muzzi also highlighted that while Brazilian football faces structural differences with Europe, it can still compete at the highest level, as Flamengo and Palmeiras have proven in previous tournaments.
“The Club World Cup started strong, fulfilling FIFA’s vision of bringing football to new territories, and its consolidation will require time and narrative,” Muzzi concluded.
