New Zealand.- July 17th 2023 www.zonadeazar.com On Thursday, July 20, New Zealand and Norway will kick off the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia-New Zealand 2023. Argentina will participate in Group G with Italy, South Africa and Sweden.

We tell you some particularities of the ninth edition of the World Cup.

The 7 curiosities of the Women’s World Cup 2023:

1. It will be the first FIFA Women’s World Cup with two host countries and 32 teams; it will have eight debutant teams.

2. Argentina will participate for the fourth time in the World Cups, after USA 2003, China 2007 and France 2019; and eight teams will compete for the first time.

3. Haiti, which eliminated Chile in the playoffs, will share Group D with England, Denmark and China. Vietnam and Portugal, two debutants, will be in Group E along with the United States and the Netherlands.

4. This will be the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup, organized by FIFA since 1991. The United States is the team with the most titles and the current defending champion.

5. The 2023 World Cup will have twelve female technical directors leading their teams, including prominent names such as Milena Bertolini (Italy), Desiree Ellis (South Africa), Pia Sundhage (Brazil) and Sarina Wiegman (England).

6. In the history of the Women’s World Championships, three female coaches were crowned champions: Tina Theune and Silvia Neid of Germany in 2003 and 2007, respectively, and Jill Ellis of the United States in 2015 and 2019.

7. Pia Sundhage, current coach of Brazil, played two World Cups as a player for Sweden and then coached the United States, winning two gold medals at the Olympics.
