Betr Reports 19.1% Wagering Growth to AU$432.3 Million in Q1

Australia.- 29 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Australian wagering operator Betr Entertainment has released its financial results for the first quarter of FY2027, reporting a 19.1% year-on-year increase in wagering turnover to AU$432.3 million.

The company also recorded 3.2% growth in gross win and a 1% increase in net win, although customer-friendly sporting results placed pressure on margins during the period.

Despite these challenges, Betr reaffirmed its full-year financial guidance, forecasting normalised EBITDA of between AU$13 million and AU$19 million.

Wagering Turnover Increases by 19.1%

During the three months ended 30 September 2026, Betr recorded significant growth in customer wagering activity.

Key operating indicators included:

  • Total wagering turnover: AU$432.3 million, up 19.1%.
  • Gross win: AU$53.5 million, an increase of 3.2%.
  • Net win: AU$38.4 million, up 1%.
  • Gross win margin: 12.4%, compared with 14.3% a year earlier.
  • Net win margin: 8.9%, compared with 10.5% in 2025.

The figures show that growth in wagering turnover significantly exceeded the increase in revenue retained by the operator.

Sporting Results Put Pressure on Margins

Betr explained that the quarter was affected by customer-friendly sporting outcomes, which reduced the profitability of certain wagering activities.

Major events influencing performance included the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL) finals.

The company also highlighted the impact of other major sporting events.

These results contributed to the decline in net win margin to 8.9%, below the historical levels assumed in Betr’s financial forecasts.

However, the operator considers these fluctuations primarily related to sporting outcomes rather than a structural deterioration in its business.

October Delivers Significant Recovery

Preliminary trading figures for October indicate improvements in both activity and margins.

According to unaudited results covering the period to 26 October 2026, Betr recorded:

  • Wagering turnover: AU$136.2 million, up 6.9%.
  • Net win: AU$15.7 million, an increase of 73.3%.
  • Gross win margin: 15.4%.
  • Net win margin: 11.5%.

The recovery partially offset the effects of customer-friendly sporting results during the previous quarter.

The company believes this performance strengthens its position ahead of Australia’s peak spring racing period.

FY2027 Turnover Reaches AU$568.5 Million

Including trading during October, Betr reported AU$568.5 million in cumulative wagering turnover for FY2027 through 26 October.

This represented growth of 15.9% compared with AU$490.3 million during the equivalent period a year earlier.

The main year-to-date indicators were:

  • Wagering turnover: AU$568.5 million, up 15.9%.
  • Gross win: AU$74.4 million, an increase of 9.4%.
  • Net win: AU$54.1 million, up 14.9%.
  • Net win margin: 9.5%.

October’s stronger performance brought the year-to-date net win margin closer to the 9.6% reported in the previous comparable period.

Product Innovation Supports Customer Activity

The company attributes part of its growth to product development and investment in its wagering platform.

One of the main innovations is Wildcards, a feature introduced in August that allows customers to interact with multi-selection bets during live sporting events.

The product is particularly focused on customers using Same Game Multi wagers.

Betr also highlighted stronger engagement with multi-selection horse racing bets.

During the quarter:

  • Same Game Multi penetration increased by 7%.
  • Same Race Multi penetration increased by 25%.

These figures reflect greater engagement with products considered important to the company’s commercial strategy.

More Than 150,000 Active Customers

Betr reported 150,729 active customers during the twelve months ended 30 September 2026.

The figure was below the 156,479 active customers recorded at the end of June.

However, the operator maintains that its strategy prioritises higher wagering activity and revenue per customer rather than focusing exclusively on customer numbers.

The company also reported a 32% year-on-year increase in first-time depositors.

Betr believes these figures demonstrate encouraging developments in its commercial offering.

Statements From Betr’s CEO

Andrew Menz, Chief Executive Officer of Betr Entertainment, highlighted the company’s wagering growth and the improvement in margins during October.

He acknowledged that first-quarter sporting results favoured customers but noted that profitability recovered significantly in subsequent trading.

Menz also emphasised that investments in products and brand development were translating into increased customer activity.

The executive believes innovations such as Wildcards help differentiate Betr’s offering in Australia’s competitive wagering market.

Operating Cash Flow Remains Negative

Despite the increase in wagering turnover, Betr reported negative operating cash flow of AU$6.8 million during the quarter.

The company explained that customer-friendly sporting results created an adverse cash impact of approximately AU$4 million compared with its internal expectations.

At the end of September, Betr reported:

  • Total cash: AU$18.5 million.
  • Customer funds: AU$11.1 million.
  • Available cash excluding customer balances: AU$7.4 million.

The operator indicated that more than half the cash impact associated with sporting outcomes had already been reversed during October.

Betr Reaffirms FY2027 Guidance

The company maintained its financial targets for the year ending June 2027.

Its forecasts include:

  • Normalised EBITDA: AU$13 million to AU$19 million.
  • Operating cash flow: positive for the full financial year.
  • Stronger cash generation: expected primarily during the second half.

These projections assume a recovery towards historical margins and no material changes to regulatory, tax or operating costs.

Betr believes October’s trading performance supports its decision to maintain the guidance.

Regulatory Changes Not Expected to Affect Outlook

The operator also addressed forthcoming changes to Australia’s wagering regulatory framework.

According to the company, the announced reforms are not expected to have a material effect on its commercial operations.

Betr highlighted its product-led strategy and increasingly efficient promotional spending.

The company also confirmed that it began operating under a Tasmanian gaming licence on 7 July 2026, replacing its previous Northern Territory authorisation.

Industry Impact and Next Steps

Betr Entertainment’s first-quarter results demonstrate strong growth in wagering turnover, accompanied by reduced operating margins.

The recovery recorded during October improved its commercial outlook ahead of Australia’s peak spring racing season.

Over the coming quarters, the company intends to expand its product offering, strengthen customer engagement and restore positive cash generation.

Betr continues to target normalised EBITDA of AU$13 million to AU$19 million for FY2027, supported by wagering growth, product innovation and the recovery of its operating margins.
