Brazil: Bets CPI Extended for 45 More Days

Brasília, May 6, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com – The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) investigating the use of online betting platforms for money laundering will be extended for an additional 45 days, allowing it to continue its work until June.
The extension request was read on Wednesday (30) by Senate President Davi Alcolumbre and will be officially published to take effect. The request was submitted by Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR), who also chairs the CPI. Without the extension, the commission would have concluded its activities on that date.
CPI rapporteur Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS) had previously requested an extension. On Tuesday (29), Alcolumbre announced he would approve the additional time. Soraya initially requested a 130-day extension, noting that in February the CPI’s activities were suspended for 63 days.
