Brazil: Court Authorizes Flamengo to Display Flabet Sponsorship
Brazil – April 15, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com Clube de Regatas do Flamengo defeated Grêmio 2–0 last Sunday, in the third round of the Brazilian Championship, displaying its main sponsorship from Flabet. This display was made possible after the Federal Court of the Federal District granted an injunction in favor of the club.
Injunction Context Involving Pixbet
The injunction, issued on Saturday, suspended the effects of Ordinance No. 787/2025 from the Ministry of Finance, which the previous Friday had disqualified four betting companies, including Pixbet, a supporter of Flamengo.
The suspension occurred due to the ministry’s requirement of four technical certificates. While three were submitted in February, the fourth, related to integration, was filed on April 10, past the original deadline. In response, Pixbet filed a writ of mandamus.
Nelson Wilians, Pixbet’s lawyer, stated: “With the submission of all certificates, even if one was late, it is clear that the requirement was met. A penalty cannot be applied when there is good faith and full compliance with the obligation.”
With this, the company is once again authorized to operate fixed-odds betting, according to the injunction granted.
The injunction, signed by Judge Anderson Santos da Silva, emphasized that the ministerial ordinance aimed to ensure technical security in operations, not to penalize unjustified delays. The decision also considered the immediate economic impact on the club’s sponsorship deal.
Flamengo Displays ‘Flabet’
Flamengo had already displayed the “Flabet” brand, which belongs to the same company, in a recent Libertadores match against Central Córdoba.
“It is possible to interpret from §2 of Art. 3 of Ordinance SPA/MF No. 2.104 that the suspension of the provisional authorization seeks to prevent the exploitation of the fixed-odds betting modality ‘without the necessary certification.’”
The excerpt clarified that after the certification was submitted, even if belatedly, the companies were allowed to resume their economic activities.
In addition to Pixbet, three other companies were suspended: TQJ-Par Participações Societárias S.A., 7MBR LTDA, and Caixa Loterias S.A. These entities were also mentioned and benefited from the court’s decision.
Pixbet became Flamengo’s main sponsor at the end of 2024, signing the biggest deal in the club’s history. The agreement guarantees Flamengo up to R$ 470 million over four years, with an end date set for 2027.
