Brazil Extends Betting Tax Increase Until October
Provisional Measure extends IOF hike and betting taxation
Brazil.- July 23, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The Brazilian government extended until October 8 the validity of Provisional Measure 1.303/2025, which increases taxes on sports betting and removes exemptions on crypto assets and financial instruments. Originally set to expire on August 9, the measure remains under Congressional review.
The MP raises the fixed-odds betting tax from 12% to 18% on GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue), directly impacting betting operators in Brazil. It also applies a 5% income tax on new LCA, LCI, CRA, CRI, and debentures, and a 17.5% rate on other assets, including crypto.
A mixed committee led by Senator Renan Calheiros and Rapporteur Carlos Zarattini plans to vote on August 26, after four public hearings.
