Brazil: Ministries Oppose Casino Bill, Says Senator Girão

Brazil.- July 10, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com Speaking on Monday (7), Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) criticized the upcoming vote on Bill 2.234/2022, which aims to legalize gambling, arguing that the matter requires deeper debate and should not be discussed right before the parliamentary recess.
Girão noted that the Ministries of Finance, Health, Social Development, and Planning formally expressed opposition to the Senate, alongside the Federal Police, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and the National Tax Auditors Association (Anfip). The senator warned that the bill, which would allow 700 bingo halls and 67 casinos across Brazil, could facilitate organized crime and increase family debt.
“Gambling is an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy. Organized crime applauds this,” he stated.
