More Than MXN1.2 Million Per Day

On average, the tax generated close to MXN1.24 million per day for the State of Mexico over the period analysed.

The figure highlights the fiscal contribution made by gaming and lottery activities to state revenues.

Tax on Prizes

The framework also applies a 6% tax to the value of prizes won.

The organiser is responsible for withholding the tax and transferring it to the relevant authority.

The obligation can also apply when a winning ticket has not been sold.

Prizes Without a Declared Value

The Finance Ministry said that when prizes are distributed free of charge, do not carry an expressed value or are assigned a value below their actual worth, tax is calculated on the full value of the prizes.

The provision establishes a common tax base across different promotional and lottery formats.

State-Level, Not Federal Revenue

The figures relate exclusively to the State of Mexico.

The $65.2 million total therefore does not represent all casino and lottery tax revenue collected across Mexico nationally.

Market Context

Mexico’s gaming and betting sector continues to face greater fiscal and regulatory scrutiny.

Authorities have also stepped up oversight of online operators, financial compliance and potential irregularities involving betting platforms during 2026.

Next Steps or Impact

The figures demonstrate that casinos, lotteries and draws represent a meaningful source of tax revenue for the State of Mexico.

With more than MXN1.17 billion collected since 2024, the sector’s performance is likely to remain under close fiscal and regulatory attention.
