EGBA Completes Second Annual Reporting for Pan-European AML Guidelines

Belgium.- July 8th 2025 www.zonadeazar.com Continued progress in strengthening anti-money laundering standards across Europe’s online gambling sector

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has announced the successful completion of the second annual reporting cycle for its pan-European Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Guidelines. This achievement marks another major milestone in EGBA’s commitment to enhancing AML compliance in Europe’s online gambling industry.

About the AML Guidelines

Published in March 2023, the AML Guidelines offer sector-specific, practical guidance to online gambling operators. They cover:

  • Customer and business risk assessments

  • Customer due diligence procedures

  • Suspicious transaction reporting

  • Record-keeping protocols

The Guidelines adopt a risk-based approach aligned with EU and FATF standards, addressing the unique characteristics of online gambling that regulators may not be fully familiar with.

“We’re pleased to have completed the second annual reporting process and thank our members for their dedication,” said Dr. Ekaterina Hartmann, EGBA’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs.

“Our goal is to raise AML compliance standards and inspire others in the industry to follow suit. We invite non-members to join this initiative and contribute to the fight against financial crime.”

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

The annual reporting process helps ensure the Guidelines remain effective, relevant, and up to date. Based on feedback, EGBA plans to consider:

  • A minimum set of AML documentation

  • Enhanced guidance on risk assessments

  • Clarifications on payments, outsourcing, and sports integrity

A full update of the Guidelines is planned for 2026, to align with the upcoming EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation. One non-member company has already joined the initiative, and EGBA encourages others to participate.
