Ireland Issues New Gambling Licensing Guidelines

Ireland moves forward with gambling regulation
Irland.- July 15 – www.zonadeazar.com The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has released detailed licensing guidelines, aiming to modernize the country’s gambling oversight under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024.
Focus on B2C gambling operators
The guidelines initially target operators providing gambling services directly to consumers, outlining a seven-step process for license applications, including submitting a Notice of Intention 28 days before a full application.
Toward a fully regulated market by 2026
GRAI plans to start accepting license applications later this year, aiming for a fully regulated gambling market by 2026. Until then, operators must comply with existing laws such as the Betting Act 1931 and Gaming & Lotteries Act 1956.
The full guidance, available on GRAI’s website, covers ownership documentation, business models, compliance measures, and a risk-based assessment prior to approval.
