Macau Welcomes More Than 750,000 Visitors in Four Golden Week Days
Macau.- 6 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Macau welcomed around 750,000 visitors during the first four days of the October Golden Week holiday, marking a strong start to one of the year’s most important tourism periods.
4 October recorded the highest daily volume of the holiday up to that point, with approximately 210,000 arrivals.
More Than 540,000 Visitors in Three Days
Preliminary Macao Government Tourism Office, MGTO, data shows 540,549 visitor arrivals between 1 and 3 October.
Daily arrivals were:
- 1 October: 169,635 visitors.
- 2 October: 179,253.
- 3 October: 191,661.
The figures represented year-on-year increases of 22.3%, 10.2% and 6.4%, respectively.
Holiday High on 4 October
Visitor traffic continued to increase on the fourth day.
Around 210,000 visitors entered Macau on 4 October, the highest daily figure recorded during the Golden Week period up to that point.
Average Well Above Forecast
Across the opening four days, Macau recorded an average of approximately 188,000 visitor arrivals per day.
That is around 25% above the MGTO forecast of roughly 150,000 daily visitors for the full holiday period.
Golden Week Runs Until 7 October
Mainland China’s National Day Golden Week runs from 1 to 7 October.
Based on the MGTO target of 150,000 arrivals per day, Macau had been targeting around 1.05 million visitors across the seven-day period.
The pace recorded during the opening days was comfortably above that level.
Mainland China Dominates Arrivals
Mainland China accounted for approximately 86.5% of all visitor arrivals during the first three days.
A total of 467,348 mainland visitors entered Macau over the period.
Hong Kong was the second-largest source market with 51,423 arrivals.
Border Gate Leads Entry Points
On 4 October, the Border Gate remained the city’s busiest visitor entry point.
More than 98,000 arrivals were recorded there.
Hengqin handled more than 45,000 arrivals, while the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge processed over 29,000.
More Than 844,000 Border Movements
Total border movements exceeded 844,000 on 4 October, including residents and other travellers.
Visitor movements accounted for more than 424,000, comprising approximately 210,000 arrivals and nearly 214,000 departures.
Infrastructure Under Pressure
Authorities had anticipated heavy traffic throughout the holiday.
Before Golden Week began, Macau forecast between 5.2 million and 5.4 million total border crossings across the seven days.
Daily border traffic was expected to exceed 800,000 around 3 and 4 October.
Tourism and Gaming
Strong visitor volumes are generating expectations for hotels, casinos, retail and entertainment during one of Macau’s busiest annual periods.
However, higher visitor numbers do not automatically translate into equivalent growth in gaming revenue.
Attention will also focus on spending levels and premium-player activity throughout the rest of October.
Market Context
Macau has continued to record a broader tourism recovery, although September produced the lowest monthly gaming revenue total of 2026.
The contrast between strong visitor arrivals and recent casino revenue trends will therefore be one of the key indicators to monitor this month.
Next Steps or Impact
Final Golden Week data will show whether the exceptional pace of the opening four days was sustained through the end of the holiday.
With the initial daily average well above official expectations, October has started positively for Macau’s tourism sector.
The ultimate impact on casinos, hotels and other businesses will now depend on how much spending is generated by the increased visitor traffic.
