Pernambuco’s Attorney General Closes Case Against Esportes da Sorte

Company operates in full compliance with Brazilian law

Brazil.- July 29, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com  The Attorney General’s Office of Pernambuco (PGJ-PE) officially closed the investigation against Esportes da Sorte, citing Brazilian federal laws 13.756/2018 and 14.790/2023, which regulate fixed-odds betting.

According to the Pernambuco Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPPE), the company operates entirely within legal federal parameters, as confirmed in a report by Deputy Attorney Norma Mendonça Galvão de Carvalho.

Judge criticized for unsupported actions

The PGJ strongly criticized the judge from the 12th Criminal Court of Recife, who maintained unfounded precautionary measures. The MPPE stated: “Her conduct seriously undermines legal security and improperly seeks to criminalize a legal activity.”

Third dismissal of the case

This marks the third time the case was dismissed, yet the judge continued to impose unsupported legal actions. The MPPE also noted procedural flaws, such as ignored financial data and unresolved investigations dating back to March.

MP challenges asset freeze

The asset freeze order was deemed unjustified, especially since the alleged illegality had been ruled out earlier. “Without a prior crime, there is no basis for a money laundering investigation,” stated the MP.

Case sent to Judiciary Oversight

The PGJ has referred the case to the Judicial Oversight Body and the 4th Criminal Chamber to assess the judge’s conduct. The assigned prosecutor has also been briefed for appropriate follow-up.

“Justice demands respect for legality, stability of decisions, and functional impartiality,” concluded the MPPE.
