“The return of bingos, casinos and Jogo do Bicho is simply devastating and will favor tycoons from outside the country, including,” stated Girão, adding: “It is the socialization of losses to benefit the profits of a few. Brazil is the one who will pay this bill. The lobby is powerful and wants it because it wants to shove it down people’s throats, as if this were Brazil’s priority.”

According to Agência Senado, Girão also highlighted scandals and corruption during the period in which bingos operated in Brazil, causing social and economic problems – which is why President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree banning the practice in the country.

Girão reported seeing, when entering a casino, a lady wearing a diaper. The senator stated that “the person becomes so obsessed that they don’t want to waste the minutes they would go to the bathroom, so as not to lose their place in that slot machine”, claiming that “everything is designed for a trap”.

Legalization of casinos in Brazil

This week, the CCJ may vote on PL 2,234/2022, which legalizes casinos and bingos in Brazil. The Commission will hold a meeting tomorrow, the 5th, to discuss different issues, including the proposal that aims to allow gambling in the country.

Initially, the vote was postponed so that the issue could be discussed in a public hearing.

The PL authorizes the installation of casinos in tourist centers or integrated leisure complexes – such as high-end hotels, with at least 100 rooms, restaurants, bars and spaces for meetings and cultural events.

The document provides for the installation of a casino in each state and one in the Federal District, except in São Paulo, where up to three casinos will be installed, and in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Amazonas and Pará, where up to two may operate. casinos in each state.
