Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Voting on the Bill of Casinos, Bingos and Jogo do Bicho is Postponed
Brazil.- May 27, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The vote on bill number 2,234/22, which proposes the legalization of casinos, bingos and Jogo do Bicho, was rescheduled for May 29 by the president of the Commission of Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).
The decision to postpone came after the absence of senator Irajá Silvestre (PSD-TO), rapporteur of the project, in the session that would take place last Wednesday, May 22nd.
According to information from UOL/Estadão Conteúdo, the presence of the rapporteur is essential for the discussion of such a controversial project, as emphasized by Alcolumbre. He declared that if Irajá had been present, the vote would have taken place.
Furthermore, it was reported that this is the second time that Irajá has not attended a session intended to debate PL 2,234/2022. This led Alcolumbre to consider appointing an ad hoc rapporteur, that is, a temporary substitute who could present the opinion in the absence of the official rapporteur.
There is concern that the next session of the CCJ, scheduled for the following week, may have low participation from senators due to the Corpus Christi holiday, which will be celebrated on Thursday, May 30, one day before the new date scheduled for the vote.
