Brazil.- October 1, 2024. www.zonadeazar.com – The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, made important statements regarding the government’s next steps concerning online betting in the country. In addition to mentioning that Anatel will block around 600 companies that are not registered with the Ministry of Finance, Haddad also made a significant statement about issues such as gambling addiction and money laundering.
In an interview with CBN, Haddad said that the government will intensify monitoring to prevent an increase in public health issues, as well as tighten measures against possible cases of money laundering. Haddad also mentioned the possibility of registering family members’ phone numbers to notify them of potential severe gambling addiction in someone close to the player.
“We will monitor the evolution of betting and winnings CPF by CPF. Those who bet a lot and win little may be suffering from psychological dependence. There are dramatic cases where it is clear that a problem is occurring. Those who bet little and win a lot are generally involved in money laundering,” said the Minister of Finance.
Central Bank Report Shows Transfers Between R$18 billion and R$21 billion via PIX
Last week, the Central Bank released a report indicating that the monthly volume of PIX transfers from individuals to betting companies ranged between R$18 and R$21 billion. In August alone, the monthly value of online betting reached R$20.8 billion, compared to R$1.9 billion in revenue from all Caixa Econômica Federal lottery draws.
