Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Unlicensed Betting Houses Shut Down
Brazil.- August 14, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com – The District 1 Police Station of Patos, in Paraíba, shut down two betting houses operating without a license from the Paraíba State Lottery (LOTEP), as reported by Patos Online.
Acting on anonymous tips, police officers closed the establishments and seized documents and equipment related to betting activities, initiating further investigations.
“These two establishments were not in compliance with LOTEP regulations, as they were offering games of chance solely dependent on luck, which is against the law. We closed them with due caution. The legal representatives must now seek authorization from LOTEP, and we are investigating potential criminal liability,” said Delegate Deivison Moraes.
The operation will continue to investigate possible related crimes, such as money laundering and criminal organization.
In Paraíba, sports betting and online virtual gaming events are managed by the company Embralote. The authorization was granted in May, after Embralote completed the accreditation process and paid a subsidy of R$ 2 million, allowing the site to become operational immediately.
