Zona de Azar Brazil – Loterj Prohibits Football Clubs from Displaying Betting Advertisements in Rio

Brazil.- August 15, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro (LOTERJ) has notified the clubs Vasco da Gama, sponsored by Betfair, Botafogo, sponsored by Parimatch, and Fluminense, sponsored by Superbet, to remove advertisements related to unlicensed lottery activities in Rio de Janeiro.

The notification sent by LOTERJ also mentions official websites and products of the betting companies, which do not have a license from the authority to operate.

In May of this year, LOTERJ filed a lawsuit requesting a court order to block unlicensed betting sites. The 1st Regional Federal Court (TRF1) in Brasília partially granted the authority’s request, authorizing the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) to block activities of operators not licensed by LOTERJ.

However, Judge Pablo Zuniga Dourado of the 11th Panel of TRF1 lifted the website block after recognizing that the provisional injunction did not consider the time frame established by Federal Law No. 14.790/2023 for betting companies to obtain licenses to legally operate in the Brazilian market.
