Zona de Azar Malta – MGA Unveils Interim Performance Report Covering Initial Half of 2023

Malta.- 20th December 2023 www.zonadeazar.com The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued its Interim Performance Report for the period spanning January to June 2023.

This comprehensive report offers a detailed review of the MGA’s achievements and the performance of the Maltese gaming industry in the first half of the year. It delves into various activities, presenting key facts and figures that underscore the MGA’s role as a gaming regulator.

Throughout this period, the MGA conducted 14 compliance audits and 85 desktop reviews. Notably, the authority issued 23 warnings, cancelled four licenses, and suspended five others. Additionally, it imposed nine administrative penalties and facilitated one regulatory settlement.

In the realm of responsible gaming, the MGA assisted 2,216 players in need and carried out 40 checks on responsible gambling websites. The authority also received 166 allegations of suspicious betting, prompting 118 alerts on suspicious betting within the industry.

The MGA played a direct role in six investigations related to sports rules violations or manipulation of sporting competitions.

Looking ahead, the MGA plans to publish a comprehensive industry performance report in the second half of 2024, coinciding with the release of its Annual Report for the financial year ending December 31, 2023.

In recent news, the MGA introduced its new CEO, Charles Mizzi, succeeding Carl Brincat, a decision made by The Board of Governors and announced last Friday.
