Denmark Blocks Polymarket and 97 Other Unlicensed Gambling Sites

Denmark, 21 August 2026 – Zona de Azar® – Danish authorities have intensified their crackdown on unlicensed online gambling by blocking 98 domains, including Polymarket, one of the world’s leading prediction market platforms.

The measure was initiated by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) and approved by the Frederiksberg Court on 8 July 2026. Telecommunications operators implemented the DNS blocks on 6 August, with the case and list subsequently made public in August.

Polymarket Among the Platforms Targeted

The 98 blocked domains include polymarket.com, alongside numerous offshore casinos and betting operators.

Under Danish legislation, offering gambling services in Denmark or targeting Danish consumers without holding a licence from Spillemyndigheden constitutes illegal gambling activity.

Polymarket’s inclusion is particularly significant amid the growing international regulatory debate surrounding Prediction Markets and contracts based on political, economic and geopolitical events.

The case once again highlights a key question for the industry: should prediction markets be treated as financial products or information platforms, or should certain forms of prediction markets be subject to gambling and betting regulations?

Denmark’s decision therefore provides another clear indication that Prediction Markets are becoming firmly established on the international gambling industry’s regulatory agenda.
