Josh Wilson to Leave at End of October
Wilson will depart at the conclusion of his current contract term.
He will remain in the role until 30 October to support an orderly handover before interim oversight transfers to Chow.
Search for a New CEO
Light & Wonder has formally commenced its search for SciPlay’s next Chief Executive Officer.
The group said it intends to take the necessary time to appoint the right leader for the business’s next phase.
Oliver Chow to Take Interim Oversight
From 1 November, Oliver Chow will assume executive oversight of SciPlay.
Chow will simultaneously continue serving as Chief Financial Officer of Light & Wonder.
He will work closely with SciPlay’s existing leadership team while the permanent CEO search continues.
Existing Team to Lead Day-to-Day Operations
SciPlay’s day-to-day management structure will remain in place during the transition.
The existing leadership team will continue running the business operationally.
Light & Wonder highlighted that team’s experience and knowledge of its brands and players as an important source of continuity.
SciPlay Remains a Separate Reporting Segment
The company confirmed that SciPlay will continue to operate as a distinct reporting segment within Light & Wonder.
The executive transition therefore does not alter the way the business is presented within the group’s financial reporting structure.
No Change in Strategy
Light & Wonder also said there will be no change to SciPlay’s current strategy.
The company remains committed to:
- Social casino.
- Brand development.
- Player engagement.
- Direct-to-consumer growth.
Brand Portfolio Remains Unchanged
The transition will not alter SciPlay’s existing social casino brand portfolio.
The business will continue developing and operating its titles under the current strategic framework while the company searches for a new CEO.
More Than Two Decades of Josh Wilson
Josh Wilson has spent more than two decades connected with the business that became SciPlay.
His career has included several stages of corporate transformation, growth and portfolio development.
Leadership Through the IPO
One of the most significant milestones of Wilson’s tenure was taking SciPlay through its initial public offering.
The company listed in 2019, beginning a new phase as a separately traded social gaming business.
From Scientific Games to Light & Wonder
Wilson spent much of his career within the Scientific Games ecosystem before the wider corporate transformation into Light & Wonder.
He subsequently continued leading SciPlay as it developed into one of the group’s core operating segments.
Full Reintegration Into Light & Wonder
In 2023, Light & Wonder acquired the remaining shares of SciPlay that it did not already own.
The transaction turned SciPlay into a wholly owned subsidiary and ended its separate public listing.
Matt Wilson Praises His Contribution
Light & Wonder President and CEO Matt Wilson acknowledged Josh Wilson’s contribution over more than twenty years.
He highlighted Wilson’s role in the IPO, the development of leading social casino titles and the creation of a strong team and culture.
Confidence in Social Casino
Light & Wonder reaffirmed its confidence in the social casino category.
The company continues to see growth opportunities across SciPlay’s brands, particularly through direct-to-consumer channels.
Direct-to-Consumer Remains Important
Direct distribution remains one of the strategic opportunities identified by the group.
The model can strengthen relationships with players and provide additional ways for SciPlay to distribute and monetise its portfolio.
Industry Context
SciPlay forms part of Light & Wonder’s wider cross-platform strategy alongside Gaming and iGaming.
The group seeks to leverage content, technology and intellectual property across multiple channels to extend the reach of its games and brands.
The decision to preserve SciPlay’s strategy during the leadership change indicates continuity in that broader positioning.
Next Steps and Impact
Josh Wilson will remain CEO until 30 October to ensure an orderly handover.
Oliver Chow will assume executive oversight from 1 November while the search for a permanent successor continues.
In the meantime, Light & Wonder will maintain SciPlay’s existing strategy, reporting structure and portfolio, with continuity at the centre of the leadership transition.
