Spain to Introduce New Online Gambling Deposit Limits in March 2027

Spain.- 27 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Spain’s Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) will introduce a new system of combined deposit limits for online betting and casino platforms in March 2027.

The measure, promoted by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, establishes standard limits of €700 per day, €1,750 per week and €3,300 over four weeks.

The main change is that deposits will be calculated across all licensed operators used by the same individual, rather than being monitored separately by each gambling platform.

New Limits Across All Operators

The system establishes three standard combined limits:

  • €700 per day: total deposits over a 24-hour period.
  • €1,750 per week: total deposits over seven days.
  • €3,300 every four weeks: the overall limit for a 28-day period.

Previously, deposit limits were applied individually by each operator.

This meant that customers holding accounts with several platforms could exceed their intended overall spending limits by distributing deposits among different companies.

Under the new framework, deposits will be aggregated across operators, regardless of the number of accounts held.

Once any applicable threshold is reached, operators will be prevented from accepting further deposits until the relevant limit allows additional funds.

Players Will Be Able to Adjust Their Limits

The regulations allow customers to voluntarily reduce, increase or remove the standard limits.

However, requests to increase or eliminate restrictions will be subject to specific information and player protection procedures.

The requirements include:

  • A three-working-day waiting period before certain changes take effect.
  • Enhanced information about gambling-related risks.
  • The ability to request increased deposit limits only once every three months.

These provisions are intended to discourage impulsive changes and promote more considered spending decisions.

DGOJ to Monitor Deposits in Real Time

The new system will be managed by the DGOJ, which has developed a technological tool to verify compliance with combined deposit limits.

Whenever a customer attempts to deposit funds, the operator will need to confirm that the transaction does not exceed the permitted thresholds.

Verification will take place through a centralised system, without requiring gambling companies to exchange customers’ personal information directly.

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, this approach will improve regulatory oversight while strengthening data protection.

One-Third of Players Use Multiple Operators

Spanish authorities reported that approximately one-third of active online gambling customers use more than one operator.

This is one of the main reasons behind the introduction of combined deposit limits.

The Government considers that limits applied individually by operators are insufficient to monitor the total amount deposited by a single customer.

The new mechanism will provide an additional layer of protection and will not eliminate the existing operator-specific deposit limits.

Spain Launches New Player Portal

Alongside the reform, the Ministry introduced the Player Portal, a digital platform allowing users to review their gambling activity across licensed operators from a single location.

Through the portal, customers can:

  • Review deposits and wagers.
  • Check winnings, losses and activity history.
  • Identify gambling accounts associated with their identity.
  • Configure spending alerts.
  • Manage combined deposit limits.
  • Download annual gambling activity certificates.

The platform is also intended to help users detect potential identity theft.

Access is free and available through Spain’s Cl@ve digital identification system.

Implementation Scheduled for March 2027

The combined deposit limit system is currently undergoing testing and is already available to users wishing to access it.

According to the Ministry’s published timetable, mandatory implementation is scheduled for 26 March 2027.

The framework forms part of Royal Decree 520/2026, approved in June 2026.

During the transition period, operators must complete the necessary technical integration to comply with the new requirements.

Industry Impact

The introduction of combined deposit limits represents a significant change in Spain’s approach to player protection.

For operators, it will require adjustments to deposit systems and coordination with the DGOJ’s technological infrastructure.

For customers, the new tools will provide a consolidated view of gambling activity and greater control over funds deposited across different platforms.

Spain is moving towards a centralised oversight model combining prevention, transparency and digital safer gambling tools.
