Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: CCJ Legalizes Casinos, Bingo, Jogo do Bicho and Online gambling

Brazil.- April 18, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  The senators of the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) did not consider and vote on PL 2234/2022, which legalizes casinos, bingos, Jogo do Bicho and online games during this meeting Wednesday (17).

The rapporteur of the proposal, senator Irajá Silvestre, sent a document requesting the bill to be removed from the agenda.

The proposal was item 3 on the collegiate voting agenda. The CCJ’s agenda for this Wednesday morning included the analysis and voting on 20 proposals.

Many supporters of the legalization of gaming may be frustrated with the withdrawal of the proposal from the agenda, but there was a great risk to the outcome of the vote on the bill due to the political environment contaminated by the conservative agenda of the opposition and evangelicals.

But the worst case scenario would be for the proposal to be rejected by the board and generate a monstrous setback in the process of legalizing physical games in the country.

As BNLData had already announced this Monday (15), the president of the CCJ, Davi Alcolumbre, by publishing PL 2234/22 would please supporters of the legalization of gaming, but could also use the removal of the proposal’s agenda as a bargaining chip with the conservative and evangelical bench, who oppose the approval of the project to guarantee political support from these parliamentarians for their election to preside over the Senate.
