Buenos Aires Lottery Will Allow Bets from Other Countries Around the World

Buenos Aires – April 25, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com Before more than 200 industry representatives and workers, the opening of new sales channels was officially announced, which will allow bets to be placed from other countries around the world and the launch of the Teleturf app for local horse racing bets.
The president of the Buenos Aires Provincial Lottery and Casinos Institute, Gonzalo Atanasof, alongside the Minister of Government, Carlos Bianco, and the Government’s General Advisor, Santiago Pérez Teruel, made official the implementation of new platforms for horse racing betting.
They were accompanied by the Administrator of the La Plata Racetrack, Mariano Cowen; the president of the San Isidro Jockey Club, Juan Villar Urquiza; and the president of the Dolores Racetrack, Mario Di Salvatore.
On this occasion, Atanasof stated: “The last major change in horse racing was 50 years ago, with the implementation of satellite transmissions of races to betting agencies. The measures we’re announcing today will mark a before and after in the history of this industry and the five racetracks of the Buenos Aires province.”
“Despite the difficult economic scenario we are experiencing, we have worked hard over the years, with the support of the provincial government, to elevate horse racing to the highest level.”
Bianco highlighted: “We know that 30% of horse racing revenue comes from its own collection and 70% from the Repair Fund. With these two new tools, we’re aiming to reverse that equation—not by reducing the fund, but by increasing the overall resources coming into horse racing.”
“Not to shrink the activity, as has been tried many times, but on the contrary, to strengthen it.”
One of the tools presented is the internationally known Commingle system—a betting sales channel that will allow races held at the province’s five racetracks to be exported globally. It will create a larger, more attractive shared betting pool for both local and international audiences. This model is already successfully used in countries such as the U.S., France, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Ireland, and the UK.
Additionally, the TeleTurf app was announced, which will allow users to place horse racing bets from their smartphones, expanding sales channels to reach a new audience over 18 years old, improving revenue and, consequently, the prize pools.
These tools will bring foreign currency into the country, increase visibility and prestige for local horse racing, boost infrastructure investment, and enhance the competitiveness of Buenos Aires racetracks.
This historic and innovative initiative is a milestone for the industry and a crucial step toward its future modernization and sustainability. It’s worth remembering that this activity brings together over 60,000 professionals, workers, and families who have turned horse racing into a sport with deep popular tradition.
Also in attendance were María Laura García, Vice President of the Provincial Lottery and Casinos Institute; Marcelo Santillán, Executive Director; Juan Puleston, Provincial Director of Racetracks and Casinos; Mariano Fragueiro Frías, President of the Association of Racehorse Owners; Prosecutor Juan Cruz Condomí Alcorta; and many other industry leaders, union representatives, owners, jockeys, and workers.
