Brazil: ANJL Raised Concerns About Youth Access to Gambling

Brazil – April 4, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com  The president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Lemos, was received by the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski. The meeting’s agenda focused on the challenges of the regulated gambling market in Brazil. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security last Wednesday (2).

On this occasion, Plínio Lemos was accompanied by federal deputy Isnaldo Bulhões. Both presented to Minister Lewandowski the industry’s concerns on issues such as combating illegal betting sites.

Additionally, the discussion covered the impact of taxation on the betting industry and youth access to digital betting platforms.

Lewandowski listened to reports about concerns regarding young people’s access to gambling platforms.

To support the sector’s arguments and shed light on the issue, Plínio Lemos and Isnaldo Bulhões presented the minister with the latest data from the Ministry of Justice on youth vulnerability to gambling activities. According to Plínio, the issue of youth and children’s participation is a factor that requires attention.

“We reinforced our concern with this research, which highlights children and teenagers being drawn to illegal betting, which, as we know, lacks security measures and poses a serious risk to minors,” said Plínio Lemos Jorge.

“We also discussed the initiatives being taken by the Federal Government to dismantle this unauthorized operation in the country, which, in addition to causing losses for bettors and licensed companies, prevents the collection of billions of reais in taxes,” explained Plínio.

Minister Lewandowski was open to discussing and taking action that could impact the gambling sector in Brazil. Although no concrete measures have been taken yet, the Ministry acknowledges that there is still much to be done regarding the gambling and betting industry.

In this regard, a joint effort is needed to consolidate a transparent, serious, and secure market for bettors.
