Brazil Betting Shutdown: Today Is Final Day to Withdraw Funds
Brazil.- 6 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Brazilian bettors have until 11:59pm on 5 October to voluntarily withdraw funds held on authorised fixed-odds betting platforms.
From 6 October, websites and applications offering these products must become unavailable nationwide under the transition schedule established following Provisional Measure 1,394/2026.
Final Day to Withdraw Funds
Throughout 5 October, customers can still access authorised platforms to request withdrawals of their remaining balances.
The deadline forms part of the transition period introduced following Brazil’s nationwide fixed-odds betting ban.
Websites and Apps Go Offline
From 6 October, betting platforms must become unavailable to Brazilian users.
The measure covers both sports betting and online gaming products falling under the fixed-odds framework.
It also applies to operators based overseas when they target people located in Brazil.
What Happens to Unwithdrawn Balances
Funds not voluntarily withdrawn will not be lost.
On 6 and 7 October, operators must report each customer’s remaining balance to financial institutions, identified by CPF, together with the bank account from which deposits originated.
Automatic Repayments
Between 9 and 14 October, financial institutions must return the funds to the respective customers.
The procedure is intended to ensure that users who do not withdraw directly from betting platforms can still recover their money.
Caixa Involvement
From 14 October, Caixa Econômica Federal may step in where operational obstacles prevent banks from completing repayments.
The institution will act as an intermediary to ensure remaining balances are returned to customers.
New Deposits and Bets Already Stopped
Since Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 was published on 25 September, platforms have been prohibited from accepting new deposits or wagers.
During the transition period, their activity has been largely limited to enabling customers to withdraw existing balances.
Advertising and Sponsorship
The measure also banned new betting advertising, marketing and promotional activity.
Existing advertising and sponsorship material was granted a transition period ending alongside the platform shutdown.
Sports Impact
The withdrawal of betting brands has significant implications for Brazil’s sports sponsorship market.
Over recent years, betting operators became one of the country’s most important sponsorship categories, particularly across football shirts, stadium branding and digital activations.
Criminalisation Proposal
In parallel, the Government sent Congress a bill proposing prison sentences for those who operate, intermediate, promote or facilitate prohibited fixed-odds betting.
The bill must still pass through Congress before becoming law.
Industry Response
Industry groups including ANJL and IBJR have challenged the ban, arguing that removing regulated operators could encourage customers to migrate towards illegal platforms.
The associations have also launched legal efforts seeking to reverse the measure.
Regulatory Context
Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 banned the operation, offering, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting throughout Brazil.
Other lottery products expressly authorised by Brazilian law are not covered by the prohibition.
Next Steps or Impact
6 October marks the effective shutdown of Brazil’s regulated fixed-odds betting market.
Attention will now turn to customer repayments, platform blocking, enforcement against illegal operators and congressional consideration of the measure.
The implementation phase also opens a new chapter in the wider legal and legislative dispute between the Government and the betting industry.
