Brazil: Yellow Card Triggers Match-Fixing Alert

Brazil – April 10, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com  Juventude Esporte Clube has spoken for the first time regarding forward Ênio, who is under investigation for suspected match-fixing.

In an official statement, the club announced on Tuesday, April 8, that it has decided to reinstate the player. He was left out of the match against Botafogo in the second round of the Brasileirão and had been training separately from the rest of the squad.

According to the statement released by Juventude, the decision was made after “extensive discussions with the player and based on the information available at this time.” As a result, Ênio is once again available for coach Fábio Matias for the remainder of the Brasileirão. The expectation is that he will be included in the squad for the match against Ceará on Saturday at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium.

The club also announced the creation of an Internal Integrity Unit, focused on the “guidance, prevention, and investigation of potential conduct that could harm the values of the sport.”

Juventude’s Official Statement

Juventude Esporte Clube informs that it is aware of the reports issued by authorities and the ongoing investigations involving the player Ênio. The club is following the situation with maximum attention, interest, and balance.

Therefore, after extensive discussions with the player and based on the information available so far, Ênio will continue his regular activities, training with the squad, and being available for the coaching staff for the Brazilian Championship matches. Juventude will continue to provide the necessary support to the player, who, like any citizen, is entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence.

Finally, reaffirming its total and unrestricted commitment to integrity, ethics, and transparency, Juventude and player Ênio are fully available to cooperate with the competent authorities in clarifying the facts.

The Ênio Case

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) issued a match-fixing alert after Juventude’s player Ênio received a yellow card in the first round of the Brasileirão. The information has already been forwarded to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the Federal Government.

Ênio was booked in the 36th minute of the first half after complaining to referee Paulo Cesar Zanovelli about a foul near Juventude’s penalty area. Several betting operators raised suspicions due to an abnormally high betting volume on the yellow card for the forward.

So far, six betting operators have flagged alerts regarding the incident. According to the IBIA report accessed by ge, one operator indicated that 99% of the bets in the card market were on Ênio receiving a booking, with all other players in the match accounting for just 1% of the total betting volume. Another operator reported that 90% of the total bet volume came from suspicious users.
