Congressman Believes Casino Regulation in Brazil Will Happen Soon

Brazil – April 16, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com Federal Congressman Newton Cardoso Jr. expressed optimism and support for the growth of the gaming, casino, and sports betting sectors in the country.

Regarding the issue of gambling regulation in Brazil, Cardoso Jr. acknowledged the challenges the country faces—particularly concerning the responsible use of welfare income.

“We have many people who live on welfare income and are currently using it for gambling, and that’s not acceptable,” he said. He also emphasized the need for clearer legislation that protects vulnerable populations while encouraging the responsible growth of the industry.

Investment in Casinos and Their Advantages

Furthermore, he stressed the need for reforms that “qualify the sector” and create a structured legal environment.
“Investing in the legalization of casinos, for example, will improve our country and respect our people,” Cardoso Jr. stated, highlighting the role such events can play in promoting understanding and progress.

Commenting on Brazil’s regulatory journey, the congressman pointed out that unlike many other countries, Brazil started with online gaming.

“Due to our tourism potential and the quality of experiences we offer, it is inevitable that casinos in physical spaces will be approved by Congress very soon,” he predicted, signaling a future expansion of the sector.

In his remarks, Cardoso Jr. acknowledged the role of SiGMA as one of the main drivers of investment and international dialogue. He highlighted the event as “the biggest conference of them all.”

He also praised the organizers for their consistent efforts in connecting investors with Brazil’s political landscape.

“This is my fourth or fifth year participating,” he shared, emphasizing the event’s continuous evolution and its increasing relevance to Brazil’s economic and regulatory environment.

“It is very important to make a connection between the policymaking we have in Brazil and the fact that investors have made this possible,” he said.

He also thanked Malta’s ambassador to Brazil, John Aquilina, for introducing him to SiGMA, as well as the event’s founder, Eman Pulis. He highlighted the collaborative spirit between Brazil and Malta.

“It’s clear that when a country invests in education and has a tradition of internationalizing its economy, it becomes a nation greater than its geography—and that is the case with Malta. It is much larger than the country itself because of the people who live there. The people of Malta are respected and always welcome in Brazil,” he concluded.
