Denmark Opens Applications for Land-Based Casino Licences

Denmark.- 5 August 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com The Danish Gambling Authority has opened the application process for new land-based casino licences, which may be granted for periods of up to ten years.

Interested companies will have until 3 November 2026 to submit all required documentation to the regulator.

News Details

Denmark currently has seven active land-based casino licences, covering venues located in Copenhagen, Helsingør, Odense, Vejle, Aarhus and Aalborg.

The new process will determine whether the existing permits are renewed and whether the total number of licences remains unchanged, increases or decreases.

Every application received will be submitted for consultation to the relevant municipality, the local Chief of Police, the Ministry of Taxation, the Ministry of Industry and, where applicable, the Danish Maritime Authority.

Industry Context

The assessment will consider the applicant’s professional suitability, financial soundness, proposed location, potential customer base and the overall characteristics of the project.

Candidates will be required to provide detailed information concerning the size, location, organisation and planned operation of each casino.

The application process begins as the regulator continues strengthening its enforcement activity against illegal gambling across both retail and digital channels.

Statements

The Danish Gambling Authority stated:

“When deciding whether a licence can be granted, the Danish Gambling Authority places emphasis on whether the applicant can be assumed to operate the land-based casino in a fully professional and financially responsible manner.”

Next Steps or Impact

Interested companies must complete their applications by 3 November, including all required technical, financial and operational documentation.

The outcome of the process could reshape Denmark’s existing land-based casino market and create opportunities for new operators, investment and projects in different regions of the country.
