GRAI Launches National Campaign Against Underage Gambling

Ireland.- 15 July 2026 www.zonadeazar.com The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has launched a nationwide campaign to prevent underage gambling and raise awareness among parents, guardians and educators about the risks associated with early exposure to gambling. The initiative forms part of Ireland’s wider consumer protection strategy under its new gambling framework.

News Details

The campaign will be delivered through traditional media, digital platforms and educational resources aimed at families and young people. Its purpose is to help identify risk behaviours, encourage early conversations about gambling and reduce the normalisation of betting among children and teenagers.

The initiative builds on research showing a strong link between childhood gambling exposure and a greater likelihood of developing gambling-related harm later in life. Key risk factors include gambling before the age of 18, parental gambling behaviour and positive family attitudes towards gambling.

The campaign complements other measures introduced under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, including the new licensing framework, stronger advertising controls and a regulatory approach centred on public health and consumer protection.

Industry Context

Protecting children has become one of Europe’s main gambling regulatory priorities. Ireland is developing a model that combines regulation, education and prevention to reduce gambling-related harm before problematic behaviour develops.

The campaign also supports the rollout of the GRAI’s licensing regime and reinforces the regulator’s commitment to creating a safer and more socially responsible gambling market.

Statements

Anne Marie Caulfield, Chief Executive Officer of the GRAI, said:

“This research provides clear evidence of the long-term potential harms resulting from childhood exposure to gambling. It reinforces the importance of a well-regulated gambling sector that protects children and those vulnerable to gambling harm.”

She added:

“It also points to the need for awareness and education among young people, their parents and guardians on gambling-related harms.”

Next Steps or Impact

The GRAI will continue expanding educational initiatives alongside the implementation of Ireland’s new regulatory framework. The campaign is expected to support future prevention policies focused on safeguarding children and vulnerable groups.
