Macau Gaming Revenue Falls 12.1% During June
Macau.- 8 July 2026 www.zonadeazar.com Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached MOP18.5 billion (US$2.29 billion) in June 2026, representing a 12.1% year-on-year decline and an 18.1% drop compared with May. Analysts largely attributed the slowdown to the impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which diverted part of consumers’ gambling budgets towards sports betting.
News Details
Figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) show that June was Macau’s weakest gaming month since September 2025.
Despite the monthly decline, the market remains ahead on a year-to-date basis. Gross gaming revenue totalled MOP126.9 billion (US$15.7 billion) during the first six months of 2026, up 6.8% year-on-year, although growth has moderated as comparisons with last year became more demanding.
Industry analysts believe the FIFA World Cup temporarily reduced casino activity by redirecting part of players’ entertainment spending towards sports wagering, a trend that had already been anticipated during the first half of June.
Industry Context
Macau remains the world’s largest casino market and continues its post-pandemic recovery. However, the June figures demonstrate that major international sporting events can still have a significant short-term impact on casino spending, particularly across both VIP and mass-market segments.
Next Steps or Impact
The industry will closely monitor July’s revenue performance following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup. Operators expect business activity to recover during the second half of the year as analysts assess whether the positive year-to-date trend can be maintained.
